Fire-making demonstration
Around 450,000 years ago, the course of human history changed dramatically. By domesticating fire, our ancestors transformed their daily lives: keeping warm, protecting themselves, and also gathering around a hearth. At the Cerdon Caves, we invite you to travel back in time to rediscover this fundamental skill.
A Spectacular and Educational Demonstration
More than just a demonstration, this workshop is a true immersion in Prehistory. Before your very eyes, our instructors bring ancestral techniques to life:
Percussion: the precise striking of two minerals to create a spark.
Friction: the mechanical movement of wood against wood to create an ember.
Now it’s your turn: become a fire-maker!
Because Prehistory is as much about experiencing it as it is about learning about it, this workshop is open to everyone. After the theory, it’s time for practice! You’ll be invited to try the friction ignition method yourself.
Can you get the first puff of smoke? Come and take on the challenge with your family!
