Uncover the artifacts of a Neolithic village to understand an archaeological dig !
Located one hour from Lyon, Geneva and Annecy, the Parc de Loisirs Préhistoriques des Grottes du Cerdon offers an exceptional prehistoric setting. Excavations carried out at the beginning of the 20th century uncovered numerous artifacts. The site has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The park enjoys an excellent location in the Jura mountains of the Bugey region. Archaeological digs for children are among the many activities on offer.
Like all the park’s activities, the archaeological workshop takes place under shelter, so participants are protected on rainy days.
During a 45-minute activity, children uncover remains from a reconstructed Neolithic village. Based on these discoveries, the instructor explains how our ancestors lived 6,000 years ago. Prepare for your day at the prehistoric park.
A children’s archaeology session to inspire future vocations
Several prehistoric sites can be found in France. Much of what we know about Prehistory comes from the work of archaeologists, researchers who trace the evolution of humankind and its environment through excavations.
These digs uncover traces left by humans and animals from a given period. The Grottes du Cerdon Park organizes a wide range of activities for families, friends and school groups, offering a chance to better understand this chapter of our history through an archaeological dig.
The session sparks curiosity and strengthens respect for heritage. Museums, monuments and sites make France exceptionally rich in history. This workshop helps participants better understand the meaning of history.
Archaeology includes many different professions. Whatever their age, children discover several aspects of this science. Understanding the evolution of humanity broadens their knowledge, and the setting encourages full immersion.
Archaeological digs to support children’s development
Using their hands develops children’s fine motor skills and increases brain connections. Excavation also boosts imagination: how did cave dwellers use these objects? What was essential at that time?
Discovering Prehistory is suitable for the whole family. Today’s busy pace of life and new communication habits often reduce shared activities. Doing something together allows parents and children to share meaningful moments, even when time is short.
